The Galicia Jewish Museum is once again presenting the revival of Jewish life in Europe from the perspective of a contemporary photographer.
“One does not need to show everything to express everything” is the motto of the works of Ouriel Morgensztern, an outstanding photographer residing in Vienna. A distinctive feature of Morgensztern’s photography is the respect and empathy with which he approaches the people he photographs.
The choice of the artist was not accidental. The roots of Morgensztern’s Jewish family can also be traced to the territories of present-day Poland. One of the photographer’s grandfathers came from Radzymin, where he managed to survive World War II.
The original exhibition was prepared by the Jewish Museum Vienna, and its organization at the Galicia Jewish Museum was made possible thanks to the cooperation with the Consulate General of Austria in Kraków.
The date coincides with important dates in the Austrian calendar of commemoration. May 5th 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Mauthausen, one of the most brutal labor and death camps, where over 80,000 people lost their lives, including Jews and Poles.
