Coming soon: “Kroke. Orthodox Jews in Kraków”, Agnieszka Traczewska

The upcoming Galicia Jewish Museum temporary exhibition “Kroke. Orthodox Jews in Kraków” is a result of a long-term photography project by Agnieszka Traczewska, who has been documenting Kraków’s Orthodox Jewish community with her camera for over 15 years.

In 2022, a photography album was published, which was described by Prof. Marcin Wodziński, a historian and an expert in Jewish Studies of the University of Wrocław, an accomplished scholar in the field of Hasidism:

“Agnieszka Traczewska achieved the unattainable. Kroke portrays Jewish religious life in contemporary Kraków, not an eminently optimistic story. And she tells it faithfully, sometimes almost painfully. But, paradoxically, she depicts it beautifully and, despite all doubts, optimistically. She manages to capture true spirituality, amazing vitality, diversity and – above all – the continuity of a genuine religious life. Without simplifications, embellishments, or easy sentiments. Wisely, beautifully, poignantly.”

On October 12th, the exhibition will premiere at the Galicia Jewish Museum. Already today we would like to invite you to its opening and encourage you to participate in the program of events accompanying this exhibition, the details of which will be revealed soon.
