Monuments, plaques, street names— memory in public spaces can take many forms. But do these commemorative places tell us more about the people and events we aspire to remember, or about those involved in shaping that memory? How has the memory of various events changed over time? What has been commemorated, and what has been silenced? Are these cases where memory is absent – what some call sites of ‘non-memory’? We invite you to join a guided tour as we trace how Jewish citizens of Krakow and their history have been commemorated in the city’s public spaces. Along the way, we will reflect on the nature of memory today— what we choose to remember, and why.
