They distrust the state and all institutions, always complaining and dissatisfied. Full of worries and fears. And at the same time, ready for generous mobilization in times of crisis and helping those in need. These are the features of the inhabitants of Traumaland.

Michał Bilewicz invites us to review the social psychology of Poles. He shows that we are not that unique. As with any other historically traumatized nation, we adapted to the difficult conditions in which our ancestors had to live. Are we then doomed to recall the strenuous history? Is there a way out of the world of fear and oversensitivity?

The book “Traumaland” allows us not only to understand how history shaped our daily behavior, fears, and obsessions. It also gives us tips on how to avoid the ghosts of the past.
