In her debut book “Po lewej stronie sali” (“On the Left Side of the Hall. Ghetto Benches in Interwar Vilnius”,) Natalia Judzińska focuses on the antisemitic attitudes in interwar Poland and the circumstances surrounding the introduction of ghetto benches at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. Analyzing documents, correspondence, and press of the time, the author makes an attempt to answer the question “how was it possible that ethnic and religious segregation was institutionally introduced at lecture halls?” She also stresses the importance of the language which made this antisemitic practice possible. Is this type of language really just a historical matter?
