Krzysztof Potaczała, author of highly regarded non-fiction books on Bieszczady is focusing on the history of the only successful collective escape from the Sobibór death camp. He wants to find out what happened to a woman who, as a young girl, escaped from the extermination camp on October 14th, 1943, together with a group of 300 other prisoners. Several dozen people survived. Among them, a woman from Ustrzyki Dolne, Salomea, who for the rest of her life will hide the traces of her past.

A journalistic investigation lasting 6 years brings the author to Paris and Israel. He already knows that the son of a Sobibór survivor lives in France. And that this man doesn’t want to talk. And so did his mother.

At the same time, it is a story about the pre-war history of the Bieszczady Mountains, the shtetl on the banks of Strwiąż River, and people who are no longer there.

Krzysztof Potaczała – reporter, journalist. For years he has been publishing articles in both the local and the all-Polish press. Author of such books as “KSU. Rejestracja buntu”, “Bieszczady w PRL-u” (three volumes), “To nie jest miejsce do życia. Stalinowskie wysiedlenia znad Bugu i z Bieszczadów”, “Zostały tylko kamienie. Akcja Wisła: wygnanie i powroty”, “Świerczewski. Śmierć i kult bożyszcza komunizmu”, “Tak blisko, tak daleko. Bieszczady po drugiej stronie granicy”, and “Bieszczady. Śladami ludzi i miejsc”.
