They were prosperous, they broke boundaries, they studied, and fought for their rights. “Krakow Women…” is a story of several women coming from different times, different social classes, and having different occupations. From the book you will find out more about Wisława Szymborska’s real name, where the idea of leaving cigarettes on her grave came from, where Helena Rubinstein was born, and Nawojka – the first female student of the Jagiellonian University. You will also find out why Zofia Stryjeńska was in a psychiatric hospital and how Janina Ipohorska became éminence grise of the “Przekrój” magazine.

The author of the book, Alicja Zioło is a Krakow tour guide and history researcher. She wrote a book with insightful illustrations of her heroines intertwined with realistic descriptions of Krakow from the past contrasted with modern times.

A workshop for children surrounding the book “Chłopiec, dziewczynka i mur” (“Boy, Girl and Brick Wall”) by Ulf Stark

There is a brick wall that Adham sees every morning from his window. And everyday he hopes that the wall will be gone.

There it is always gloomy and grim as usual. And it is so high that one cannot climb over it. On the other side is a house in which Adham, his mom, his dad, and his sister, Sulafa used to live. Sulafa would like to get an orange from the garden that previously belonged to them!

This workshop is recommended for children aged 8 and over.

Partner: Zakamarki Publishing House.

In Polish. Free admission.
