It is our pleasure to inform you that the Galicia Jewish Museum’s Management Board has finalized the process of the new director recruitment, with many strong and experienced candidates applying for this job both from inside the Museum and externally. We are happy to announce that Mr. Jacek Stawiski will join the Museum’s team and will start his work in the position of the Museum’s director on November 1, 2023.

During the transition period, it is the Management Board that has taken the director’s responsibilities. The Museum continues all its work and will follow all the priorities that we have. The Management Board together with the Museum’s Team will continue to work closely with all partners and sponsors.

We welcome Jacek Stawiski as our new Director. We are confident that our team, partners and sponsors will appreciate his leadership.

More about Jacek Stawiski:

Jacek Stawiski studied history as well as Jewish history and culture at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Since 1992 he worked as journalist, commentator and media manager at the BBC World Service, at RMF (the biggest Polish private radio channel) where he was head of news and current affairs supervising a newsroom of 200 people across Poland and abroad and at TVN24 (the first Polish independent, private news channel) supervising a team of some 40 people working daily on the ‘Poland & World’ programme and subsequently head of the foreign news department at TVN24BIS. Between 2021 and 2023 he worked as the communication/PR specialist at the KL Plaszow Memorial Museum in Kraków. Jacek Stawiski has created multiple documentary films, programs and written articles on Polish and Jewish history as well as about contemporary Israel. His programs and texts covered important visits of Polish leaders in Israel and Israeli leaders in Poland including leading interviews. He also reported on various events and anniversaries crucial for Polish-Jewish relations and Polish-Israeli relations. He participated in several editions of strategic dialogue between the EU, Poland and Israel. In the years 2016 – 2020 he was a member of the Council of the International Education Center on Auschwitz and Holocaust.

His MA thesis focused on the emergence of Zionism in the late 19th century Galicia and he is currently completing his PhD thesis on the politics, history and national memory in Poland 1989–1995. Jacek speaks Polish, English and German to high standards and can also communicate in Hebrew and Yiddish.
