“Józef, or…” – a meeting with Michał Komar, author of the book

Led by: Witold Bereś

The dystopian, grotesque, and artfully constructed world of Michał Komar’s novel “Józef, czyli…” (“Józef, or…”) seduces us from the very first sentences. The author is a master at playing with genres, styles, and literary conventions: is it an action and adventure story, a political thriller, a philosophical tale, or maybe a romance? The book describes the world of false ideologies, the craziness of the Internet, and repeatedly asks new questions about the essence of human nature. Many new topics are introduced to the reader.

Michał Komar – born 1946, writer, literary critic, screenwriter. He wrote, among many other books, “Piekło Conrada” (“Conrad’s Hell”), “Zmęczenie” (“Weariness”), “Prośba o dobrą śmierć” (“A Plea for Good Death”), “Bestiariusz codzienny” (“Everyday Bestiary”), “Zaraz wybuchnie” (“It’s About to Explode”), “Wtajemniczenia” (“Initiations”), “Trzy” (“Three”), or “Skrywane” (“Hidden”) – which was nominated to the Nike Literary Award and the Angelus Central European Literature Award. He was the co-creator of screenplays to such films as “Szpital Przemienienia” (“Hospital of the Transfiguration”), “Olimpiada 40” (“Olympics 1940”), and „Defekt” (“Defect”). Together with Edward Żebrowski, he published a volume of screenplays titled “Opowieści filmowe” (“Film Stories”). He also authored books which are comprised of extended interviews with many prominent persons, e.g. Władysław Bartoszewski and Wojciech Pszoniak. He is a professor at Collegium Civitas.
