Born in the 1870s, Chaya Rubinstein, a daughter of a not very wealthy oil trader, lived in the Krakow’s district of Kazimierz, took care of her younger siblings, and helped her father with business. In these times, worldwide fame and her cosmetics empire didn’t even cross her mind. What did the Krakow of her childhood and early adulthood look like? Where did the Rubinsteins live? Which information from this stage of Madame’s life can be confirmed, and what still remains a mystery?
