In the second half of the 19th century, Krakow experienced a series of changes as did its inhabitants. For the Jewish community, which made up approximately 30% of the city’s population, this was a time of new opportunities, but also new challenges. Some of the changes at the turn of the 19th and 20th century particularly impacted the life of young Jewish women, with regard to education and advancing the process of emancipation. To what extent was Helena Rubinstein able to take part in these changes? This is a lecture about the city, where Helena Rubinstein was born and raised, and eventually left.
This is an accompanying event to the exhibition “Helena Rubinstein. First Lady of Beauty”.
