“Helena Rubinstein. First Lady of Beauty” – exhibition opening

We would like to invite you to the opening of a new temporary exhibition at the Galicia Jewish Museum, which will be devoted to the life of Helena Rubinstein, a renowned entrepreneur, one of the most intriguing personas of the 20th century, who in a few decades of her career built a worldwide cosmetics empire.

The place where the exhibition will be on display as well as the timing of the exhibition opening are not coincidental. Helena Rubinstein was born in 1872 in Podgórze and was raised in the Kraków’s district of Kazimierz, just 300 meters from the buildings that today are the premises of the Galicia Jewish Museum. 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of a famous Krakow-born businesswoman, whom Jean Cocteau used to call “The Empress of Beauty.”

The exhibition created in cooperation with the Jewish Museum Vienna will depict Helena’s Rubinstein story: from her youth in Krakow and through the following stages of her life spent in Vienna, Melbourne, London, Paris, and finally New York.

The opening of the exhibition will feature a concert by the Lazy Swing Band.
