Starting point: the cemetery gate from Rakowicka Street
Since the story of Krakow’s Jewish communities and the individual experiences of many Krakow’s Jews are very complex, the common belief that Kazimierz is the only place where there are traces of the Jewish past is false. We can also find these traces beyond the district of Kazimierz: at Stradom, the Old Town, or Podgórze. But what about cemeteries? Are the Jewish cemeteries at Miodowa Street and Szeroka Street the only ones where Jewish people are buried?
We would like to invite you to a guided tour through the Rakowicki Cemetery, which will be a great occasion to present the often complicated fates of people who in various ways were connected to the Jewish communities of Krakow and to tell the story of the changing city and its Jewish citizens from the 19th to the 21st century.
