Guided Tour: Art in Kazimierz, Kazimierz in Art – On Artists, Paintings, Polichromes, Sculptures, and the Architecture of the People of Kazimierz

Led by: Bartosz Wencel

One of the increasingly discussed aspects of pre-war Jewish life is art. But what is Jewish art and who is a Jewish artist? Is their Jewishness confirmed by what they depicted in their sculptures, paintings, or in architecture they designed? Or maybe their upbringing is the important part? Is there a body of work that we could call the art of Kazimierz? Or maybe art and Kazimierz is a connection that was born only a dozen years ago and emerges only from the fact that this district of Krakow has become increasingly popular among artists? We will ask you (and ourselves) these questions during a guided tour, during which we will tell you more about buildings, paintings, sculptures and, most importantly, people—the creators of art in Kazimierz.
