Film screening: “Birth Certificate”
dir. Stanisław Różewicz, 1961
On-site event

Three film novellas, three child heroes: two Polish boys and one Jewish girl. Each one of them, as a result of the war, experiences loss and is forced to grow up prematurely. However, the situation of Mireczka is completely different then her Polish counterparts. They , even though they are part of a tragic situation, still have the right to their identity and a place in society. The uncertain condition for the girl to survive is the necessity of a plausible denial of her own heritage and an ability to blend in with the hostile world.

The screening will be preceeded by an introduction by Dr. Joanna Preizner.

Film screening as part of the project “(In)separable. Difficult Subjects in Polish-Jewish Relations”, 4th edition
