The personal story of Gizela Fudem – a Holocaust Survivor – inspired a unique educational project which connected two cities: Tarnów and Wrocław, places with completely different histories and identities. Although the cities’ histories are starkly different, the story of Gizela Fudem builds bridges between them and between young people who took part in the project.
The students were incredibly committed to their research: they learned about Gizela Fudem’s fate, visited places connected with her life, and searched archives, discovering unique documents, photographs, and memoirs. Their work is a scholarly exploration of history, as well as an emotional journey into the past – an encounter with the fate of a person who, despite tragedy, was able to rebuild her life.
This exhibition is the result of many months of intense work, collaboration, and passion on the part of these young people. It is proof of their maturity, empathy, and profound understanding of the importance of historical memory. Thanks to their commitment, Gizela Fudem’s story has gained new life – becoming not only a reminder of the past but also an inspiration for building dialogue between people and cities.
The exhibition will be on display at the Galicia Jewish Museum for two weeks and will then be presented at both participating schools.
The event is held in Polish.
