“TRAKL-TAT: The Georg Trakl National Poetry Competition” is a contest aimed at poets who draw inspiration from the work of this Austrian author. Georg Trakl (1887–1914) is linked to Kraków – the city where this prominent Austrian poet passed away. The historical context is also of great significance: the year 1914, the time of the Great War. Against this backdrop, Georg Trakl becomes a symbol of a generational tragedy – both on the level of entire nations and for the individual grappling with an existential drama.
The gala will feature an awards ceremony for the winners of the competition’s 13th edition, followed by a concert by Robert Kasprzycki – a poet, singer-songwriter, composer, and guitarist. One of the most recognizable figures in Polish literary song, Kasprzycki is a laureate of the Student Song Festival in Kraków and the creator of tracks such as “Niebo do wynajęcia”, “Mam wszystko, jestem niczym”, “Światopodgląd”, and “Miejsca, przedmioty, kształty, drzwi” – songs that have long served as his musical calling cards.
