“Śladami Stramerów” (“In the Footsteps of the Stramer Family”) is an artistic and educational project inspired by the novel by Mikołaj Łoziński titled “Stramerowie” (“The Stramers”) – one of the most important narratives about Jewish life in Poland and the dramatic circumstances of its survival.

Although the starting point of this project is the town of Tarnów, the idea behind the project is universal. The story about the Stramer family becomes a pretext to reflect on the fates of Jewish communities in the whole region of Galicia as well as other towns of Central and Eastern Europe – the daily lives of these communities, their culture, social relations, and the experience of the Shoah.

The project combines elements of literature, history, photography, and regional education by joining the fictional narrative with material traces of the past. It is an invitation to reflect together on memory, identity, and responsibility for the Jewish heritage.
