Lucy and Katarzyna, both from Kraków, set off for Vienna in an old camper van. They are not going on vacation, however. They are harboring a secret and will do whatever it takes to leave no trace behind. Yet, their journey is being observed by others: a newsstand attendant who knows more about the neighborhood residents than she should, young Tadzio, and women whose stories unexpectedly intertwine. “Only Mornings Matter” is an emotionally charged novel about women, memory, the city, and journeys that can change everything. It is also a story about what we wish to leave behind—and what, despite everything, we cannot. Is an ordinary life truly ordinary? How much does it hold in terms of unfulfilled plans, family secrets, unspoken desires, and attempts to start all over again?

The author of the novel—published by the Kraków-based house Universitas—will be in conversation with:

  • Katarzyna Fortuna, Head of the Culture Department at Radio Kraków,
  • Katarzyna Kachel, Editor of the “Magazyn Piątek” at “Dziennik Polski”,
  • Prof. Krzysztof Zajas from the Faculty of Polish Studies at Jagiellonian University.

Excerpts from the book will be read by Beata Schimscheiner, with piano accompaniment by Adam Niedzielin.
