The grand premiere of “Cuttlefish: The Silenced Chapter of the Trilogy” by Witold Bereś, followed by a debate on a piece of history that refuses to let us rest
Henryk Sienkiewicz knew how to tell stories of Polish glory. But what should be done with those chapters of history that simply do not fit into the national legend? Should we pass over them in silence? Forget them? Or perhaps, in fact, draw the most important lessons from them?
Join us for the launch of Witold Bereś’s latest book, “Cuttlefish: The Silenced Chapter of the Trilogy”, and the accompanying debate: “To Uplift Hearts or Reopen Wounds?”
The discussion will cover history, politics, national myths, and our contemporary divisions – because a Commonwealth against the Commonwealth is not merely a tale from 360 years ago!
Three distinguished guests will engage with the questions posed by Witold Bereś regarding history, collective memory, and modern approaches to the politics of history:
- Dr. Dominika Kozłowska, philosopher and director of the Znak Publishing Institute,
- Prof. Jacek Majchrowski, historian, legal scholar, and long-serving President of Kraków, and
- Prof. Krzysztof Zajas, literary scholar and lecturer in the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University
The musical atmosphere for the gathering will be provided by Nadia Reguła, a singer who is also a journalist for the magazine “Kraków i Świat”.
The evening will be moderated by Paulina Filipiec (“Kraków i Świat”).
In Polish. Free admission.
