Julius Madritsch, a Viennese merchant, ran sewing factories in occupied Poland, primarily in Krakow, Tarnów, and Bochnia, employing thousands of Poles and Jews, thus protecting them from death. The life and work of the “Schindler of Tarnów” are explored in the documentary titled “Julius Madritsch: Righteous Among the Nations,” produced by the Vienna-Kraków Cultural Association. The film features testimonies from those he saved and a group of young people from Tarnów. The film was shot in Vienna, Krakow, Tarnów, and Israel with the support of Polish and Austrian institutions, including the Austrian Chancellery, as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Austria.
