Concert: Kinga Rataj and Her Band, “Biel”. The Polish Premiere of the Debut Album
Kinga Rataj
is a well-known and admired ambassador of fado in Poland. But, in her debut album, she returns to Polish songs, from which her music career began and for which she received the 1st Prize of the All-Polish Festival of Student Song in Krakow, in 2006. But, a return does not mean copying or yet another interpretation. It is her own musical journey: the concert titled “Biel” is a premiere of her debut album, which was composed and arranged especially for her.
A concert full of emotions and light, full of nuanced music which, like alchemy, creates a unique phenomenon: the author’s fusion of classical music, pop, jazz, and world music. Kinga Rataj proves that traditional music genres are outdated. Her album is like a combination of light and mist, it combines different styles in order to create something entirely new. The songs, which are touching and full of anxiety, are filled with emotion and perfectly highlight the strength and beauty of her voice. All of this with an arrangement which includes the sounds of the piano, violin, cello, percussion, and bass, which at one time are an ascetic accompaniment, in the other a display of virtuosity. And again, moving melodies which remain in memory for a long time. The songs deal with human beings, their lives, desires, consciousness, and their roots. This concert will for sure become a favorite of a varied audience, regardless of the listener’s age or musical preferences.
