20 for 20. Cezary Harasimowicz “Bieta”

20 for 20. Cezary Harasimowicz “Bieta”

Led by: Renata Radłowska

Daughter of two mothers, a Jewish one and a Polish one. A teacher by profession, a daredevil by choice. Wife of the poet Jerzy Ficowski. An activist of the anticommunist opposition. In democratic Poland an advisor and spokeswoman of Jacek Kuroń.

The rebellious Elżbieta Ficowska (b. 1942) is portrayed in Cezary Harasimowicz’s book through a series of fascinating conversations. However, “Bieta” is not a biography. It is a novel. A tender, yet not mawkish novel. A dramatic one but also full of wit. It is a novel about a woman whose fate or destiny, however one may call it, is part of the history of two nations connected with one another for centuries: Polish and Jewish.

Cezary Harasimowicz is a writer, screenwriter, and playwright. He wrote scripts to several films and film series, e.g. “300 Miles to Heaven”, “Bastard”, “Keep Away from the Window”, “Life Must Go On”, “Ekstradycja 3”, “Przeprowadzki”. Author of several books, e.g. “Saga czyli filiżanka, której nie ma”, “Mirabelka”, “Była sobie miłość”, “Tajemnica Iny”. Laureate of many awards, such as the Literary Prize of the Capital of Warsaw and the American Hartley-Merrill Prize.
