Un unfinished memory. Jewish Heritage and the holocaust in Estern Galicia

The aim of this project was to create a new permanent exhibition that would supplement the Galicia Jewish Museum’s main exhibition Traces of Memory. A Contemporary Look at the Jewish Past in Poland by Chris Schwarz and Jonathan Webber. The new exhibition is part of a wide-ranging plan for the Galicia Jewish Museum – taking a penetrating and courageous look at Jewish heritage throughout the historic Galicia province, the eastern part of which is today located in Ukraine. An Unfinished Memory encourages visitors not only to look but also to read the world around us from the perspective of Jewish memory. Through moving photographs and piercing captions, the exhibition explores the continued presence of Jewish heritage in the former Eastern Galicia, the constant impact of the Holocaust on the social geography of western Ukraine and the challenge of preserving this heritage and its commemoration.

The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
