Where Christianity Meets Judaism
Virtual trip to Wadowice and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska with Małgorzata Fus
Tourism in Wadowice and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska in most cases has been focused on religion: the hometown of Pope John Paul II and one of the most well-known sanctuaries in Małopolska draw groups of pilgrims. In these towns one can also find sites related to Jewish history: the building of the former synagogue in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a well-kept Jewish cemetery in Wadowice, with a rare example of a preserved funeral home, and the empty site where the Wadowice synagogue once stood with a commemorative plaque. These towns are examples of the coexistence of these two religions in one place.
Project “Tradition, Coexistence, Interconnections: The Unique Jewish Heritage of Małopolska.”
A series of guided tours organized by the Galicia Jewish Museum.
This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of Województwo Małopolskie as part of the program “Małopolska Gościnna 2020”.
