“Sala’s Story”

The presentation of “Sala’s Story” was based on the history of Sala Garncarz – a girl from Sosnowiec. At the age of 16, Sala was sent to a labor camp because she offered to go to work instead of her sister Rózia. She stayed in the camps from 1940 until the end of the war. She survived thanks to friendship and letters from relatives whom she had saved from the hell of war. The basis of the project is a book by Ann Kirschner – Sala’s daughter. It is a story full of real emotions, faith in goodness and friendship. It is a tale of hope against all odds. Thanks to the kindness of Ann Kirschner, materials from the family archive were used in the project – including photos, letters, and documents. Particularly important for the project participants was the meeting and conversation with Sala’s daughter – the girl who taught hope.

Project prepared by: Chancellor Jan Zamoyski 5th High School with Bilingual Branches in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
